Mafia 3 Crashing and Running Slow

The third installment of the Mafia game series was released in May 2017.

This edition of the Mafia series has been developed by Hangar 13, which is infact their debut title, and published by 2K Games. This action thriller was, however, given a moderate reception by game buffs. There has been a steady surge of complaints about several errors that simply kill the fun. Here are some fixes for Mafia 3 crashes and the running very slow issue.

30 FPS Input Lag Fix

The decision to cap Frames Per Second (FPS) at 30 has been causing many problems and issues for many users. Among other issues, input lag is a standout one. However, it can be fixed by forcing Fast sync through the NVidia Control Panel. Once you’ve made these changes, restart the game and the difference will be there for you to witness. In case, this technique fails to help you out, you should try disabling Vsync.

The Game Doesn’t Start

If the game simply refuses to launch and you’re not even getting an error message, look up for the redist folder somewhere in the game files. All you will need to do is run all the executable files present in this folder and then restart your computer. The issue would be done and dusted once you re-launch the game after the computer has successfully booted up.

Borderless Window

Apparently, the game’s options menu does not provide you with the option to play the game in a borderless window mode. In order to do so, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the game in Steam Library and select Properties.
  2. Switch to the General tab and select Set Launch Options.
  3. Write -windowed -noborder -h (resolution) -w (resolution).
  4. Save the settings and re-launch the game.

Slow Performance

The most widely reported complaints on the Steam forum about Mafia 3 are the performance issues. If you’re not able to play the game due to the poor optimization of the game, use the workarounds stated below to somewhat mitigate the issues of stutters and freezing.

  1. Launch the game and press Alt + Tab keys.
  2. Open Task Manager and click the Processes tab.
  3. Right-click on mafia3.exe.
  4. Set your CPU as 0 only for running this game.

If you have some sort of optimization issues, severe lags or stutters; you should try bringing down the shadows. Also, keep in mind that MSAA and adjusting some other certain graphics settings and updated GPU drivers are mandatory for better performance.
