Delete Corrupt Registry Settings

Windows Registry contains important system configurations. Microsoft Outlook settings are stored in the Registry. The problem arises when these Registry keys get corrupted.

For Windows 8 and Earlier Versions:

  • Move your cursor at the extreme left side of the Taskbar.
  • Right click Start Screen icon.
  • Select Run.
  • Type "RegEdit" in the Open box.
  • Click OK or press ENTER.
  • Registry Editor opens. Locate the following Registry path:
  • Right click "Boot" subkey, select Delete option.
  • You’ll be asked to confirm the action. Confirm it.
  • Close Registry Editor and restart the system.

For Earlier Versions of Windows:

Opening Registry Editor:
Press Windows Key + R, type "RegEdit" and press ENTER.

Clean Registry Errors

It is a crucial task. Registry cleaning is required as there are other conflicts in the Registry which cannot be solved manually. Manual troubleshooting requires deep knowledge of identifying errors, writing/ modifying Registry settings.

Disable Secure Guessmart Authentication

Secure Guessmart Authentication is a feature which you can find in the Test Email Configurations dialog box. Error "0x8004010f" occurs when Outlook synchronizes an Offline address book due to this feature. Disable it as follows:

  • Open Microsoft Office Outlook.
  • Hold down Ctrl key and right click Microsoft Office Outlook icon on the Notification Area of your Taskbar.
  • Select "Test email auto-configuration".
  • Check the email id specified in the textbox.
  • Uncheck the checkboxes labelled "Use Guessmart" and "Secure Guessmart authentication".
  • Check-up "AutoDiscover" checkbox.
  • Click "Test" button.

Select Appropriate Data File

Outlook Data file has .pst extension. The default data file is generally stored in application data folder.

  • Open Microsoft Office Outlook.
  • Click the File tab, select Open.
  • Choose Open Outlook Data File.
  • Click Browse button, locate the following path:
  • Select a file with .pst extension and then click Open | OK.

A few minutes can save you tons of frustration.
