Step-by-Step Guide for Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista & XP

It is important that you carry out these steps in order to fix the problem effectively:

Enable Automatic Paging File Size Management

The Paging File size (also called as Virtual Memory size) is managed in two ways, viz. Windows defines most appropriate paging file size or you can define a custom size.

You receive system service exception ndis.sys when the paging file size set by the user is not sufficient. Let the Windows set appropriate paging file size for all of your drives (including system drive and other drives).

For Windows 8.1/ Windows 8 and Earlier Versions of Windows:

  • Right click My Computer desktop icon, select Properties.
  • Click “Advanced system settings”.
  • Click Advanced tab and then Settings button under Performance category.
  • Click the Advanced tab, “Change” button under “Virtual Memory” category.
  • Make sure that the checkbox labelled “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” is checked-up. If it is not checked, mark it checked.
  • Click OK thrice.

Perform Legacy Login

In computing, the word “legacy” means no longer in active or old. This step will not work if you’re using a Facebook or Microsoft account to sign-in. Create a shortcut for the sign-in window by inserting relevant commands in the location textbox.

For Windows 8.1/ Windows 8 and Earlier Versions:

  • Quit Skype completely. Right click its system tray icon, select “Quit” option.
  • You’ll be prompted to confirm. Confirm it.
  • Go to your desktop, right click an empty area and select New | Shortcut.
  • Create Shortcut wizard will appear.
  • In the “Location” textbox type the following file path with legacy login command:
    For 32 Bit Windows:
    "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /legacylogin
    For 64 Bit Windows:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /legacylogin
  • Click Next.
  • Type a name for your shortcut, for example, “Skype Legacy Login”.
  • Click Finish button and double click your newly created shortcut.

Note: The actual path may vary if your Skype is installed in a different drive/ folder. Replace the path specified in the above Step 5 with appropriate location on your computer.
